    The Mont Granier is an impressive monument whose huge north cliff dominates the valley of Chambéry and the vineyards of Savoie from its 900m high.

  • (0) From the car park in the hamlet of La Plagne,take the direction of Mont Granier by the Balme à Collomb (closed cave where a deposit of cave bear of bones of Cavern Bears).
    (1) The slightly steep climb, part of which is in scree, requires particular requires particular vigilance. Follow the yellow markings through a small passage in the bars and then along the cliff to the top of Mont Granier.

    (2) Retrace your steps for the return journey and, at the «Alt 1840» junction (3) take the path that down to the Pas des Barres. After this passage requiring caution, continue to the Col de l’Alpette (4) and take the GR9 which returns to the hamlet of La Plagne.
    Note: the Pas des Barres passage is impressive on the descent, it is possible to do the itinerary in the other direction (ascent by the Pas des Barres and descent by the Balme à Collomb).
