La Grande Sure (depuis St Laurent du Pont)

(1) The starting point is Place Aristide Briand (fountain). Go up to the chapel, go on the road de Fontmartin and follow it on the left for about 800m. When you are at the Mollard, take the forest path on the left (sign) eastbound. At the sign take left the path which goes up in the woods in a winding track. You arrived on the Rocher de la Fenêtre platform. (2) Keep going straight on the mountain side following south. Don’t continue straight on but keep going left for about 50 meters along the forest road and find the path on the right going up southbound. Cross the forest and a large scree path (clapier des Charmilles) which stretches to the right of the path. Find on the cliff the symbol of the Carthusian (cross siting on the top of a globe). Keep going up along a winding track to the woods (cul de lampe). (3) Cross the fence by the route for hikers. Continue in the valley to the peak of la Sure. River 200m after the peak southbound. (4) When you are at the peak, take the path on your right to reach the top. (5) Go back by the same path to the Carthusian’s cross. At the point n°3, take on the left to the clapier and go down in the forest . (6) You are on the Fontmartin forest road. Go down to a quarry and take the forest path on the left (West), along the brook to the Morard’s hamlet. (7) Find on the right the path (north) facing the basin and meet the road du Cotterg in St Laurent du Pont’s plain. Way back by Le Cotterg (direct) or on the right by les Raviers, the cemetery and the chapel.
